Admission to all undergraduate programs at the University of Alberta is competitive and depends on the availability of places.
To be considered for admission, you must complete the general requirements as well as those specific to your program(s) of choice. Course requirements
All undergraduate programs that offer direct admission from high school require the successful completion of five specific subjects from Grade 12. These may vary depending on the program, but will always include English 30-1 (or its equivalent in your province). To find out the specific requirements for each program, consult the list of programs.

Alberta CTS Courses :
All Alberta CTS courses are acceptable for admission to the University of Alberta.
Competitive averages
The University of Alberta offers a wide range of programs, ranging from very accessible to very competitive. To be considered for admission, you must present a competitive average for your faculty/program of choice, based on the courses required for that program. The competitive average for each faculty/program may change throughout the year, depending on the competitiveness of the candidate pool. Achieving the minimum or competitive average does not guarantee admission, as places in each program are limited.
Fluency in the English language :
All undergraduate applicants must have an adequate level of English proficiency to be eligible. In some cases, fluency in spoken English (SEP) may also be required. (French-language programs require proficiency in the French language.) Most Canadian applicants will automatically meet the English language proficiency requirement by having completed at least three years of full-time education in English, in Canada. Otherwise, there are several ways to demonstrate English proficiency, including TOEFL and IELTS exam results.
Application fees
To submit your application, you must pay an application fee of $125 CAD (for new applicants to the University of Alberta) or $75 CAD (for current or former students of the University of Alberta). These application fees are non-refundable. Please note that application fees may vary for professional program applications; please see their website for more information.
